It is still a question in where the fundamental scale of the standard of what is “valuable” and “invaluable” originated. What is truly valuable may not be as valuable to others as we all might believe. If the things that we have are not as truly valuable and sincere, then why do we ponder about these notions even before we look at the heart of its value? It is important to observe things and the world as a whole in a different perspective in that value should not be the number one priority in what we evaluate. Thus, I created this video to illustrate the true meaning of the standard of value. Throughout the portrayal of the character that roams around the present-like virtual spaces, the theme of value is crucially touched and scrutinized. The video is divided into three chapters – present, fantasy, and back to present. Peter, the main protagonist, represents the citizens living in the present world, in which he enters the world of illusion to change the standard of value. Peter then returns back to the present world and views the scale of value in a different perspective. My ultimate goal is for the audience to experience and ventilate the definition of value.

자율적인 선택의 가장 근본적인 척도가 된 “가치 있는”것과 “가치 없는”것의 기준은 어디에서부터 온 것일까. 지금 알고 있는 그 가치가 진정으로 가치 있는 것일까. 만일 그렇지 않다면 우리는 왜 가치에 대해서 먼저 고민을 해보기도 전에 일반적인 가치를 쫓으며 힘겨워하는 걸까. 한 번쯤은 우리가 쫓고 있는 것에서 한 발짝 벗어나, 그 가치에 대해 다른 시각으로 환기해볼 시간이 필요하다고 생각하여 이번 영상 작업을 진행하게 되었다. 영상 속 현실과 닮은 듯 닮지 않은 공간들을 헤매는 인물을 통해, 다시금 생각해 볼 시간을 가져보기를 바란다. 영상은 총 3파트로 나뉘며, 각 파트는 공간적으로 현실 – 환상 – 현실로 나뉘고, 영상에 등장하는 주인공 피터는 우리 모두를 대변하는 대상이며, 이 대상은 현실에서 환상을 넘어가 가치를 뒤바꾸는 경험을 한뒤 현실로 돌아와 새로운 시각으로 현실을 다시 바라보게 된다. 관객들은 인물과 함께 가치를 환기하는 어드벤쳐를 함께 하게 된다.
