Memory makes us who we are. Our memories lie at the very core of our conscious experience, and aside from being physically different, the fact that you and I each experience life as two distinct minds is about as fundamental as defining feature of individuality as one is likely to find. Further, our current conscious experience is defined in large part by the totality of the things we have experienced in the past. The fact that two people will experience the same event differently only adds to the way in which memory defines an individual.
‘Farewell Ritual’ is a project curated by Kyunglim Kwon conducted with 7 members of participants exploring the memories of lost objects. What is the object that left you remaining only in memory?
Participants are The exhibition contains every output made through ’Farewell Ritual’ which includes three steps, separation-transition-incorporation.

내 자신을 상기시켜줄 거울이란 무엇일까. 많은 사람에게 있어 이것은 기억에 해당할 것이다. 기억이야말로 한 사람을 그 사람으로 만들어주고, 자각시켜주는 기능을 한다. 각자의 인간은 고유한 기억을 간직하고 있기에, 매일 아침 눈을 뜨면서 내가 누구인지, 어디에 있는지, 요즈음에 무얼 하고 있는지 그리 크게 고민을 하지 않아도 매일을 살아갈 수 있다. 기억은 수집하는 행위를 통해서 시간이 흘러감에 따라 재구성되고 편집된다. 그 과정은 결코 의도적으로 유도할 수 있는 의식의 과정이 아니다.
<기억의례>는 권경림이 기획하고 총 7명의 함여자들과 함께 진행한 의례식이다. 누구나 한번쯤 경험이 있을만한 일상의 떠나보낸 물건들에 대한 이야기를 다룬다. 지금은 나의 소유를 벗어난, 오직 기억 속에 존재하게 된 오브제는 무엇입니까?
참여자들은 <기억의례>를 통해 참여자는 그 오브제에 대한 또 다른 의미를 부여하게 되고, 개개인의 기억은 새로운 상태가 되는 것을 겪게 된다. 전시를 통해 분리-전이-통합이라는 세 단계의 진행과정을 거친 결과물들을 확인할 수 있다. </div>
